Over the next decade, technology will continue to change healthcare in ways that we can only begin to imagine. The ways in which we care for patients is being transformed, as are expectations about how, where, and from whom people access the services they need. As the pace of change accelerates, the opportunities will be tremendous but the journey will be complex — no part of the healthcare sector will be left untouched.
Amidst these changes, AMS considered its role and reaffirmed its commitment to the learning and practice of compassionate care. We’ll champion the transformative impact of technology on the “human side” of healthcare.
When AMS wrote its 2018-21 Strategic Aims, it took its first step toward this goal. AMS narrowed its strategic focus down to compassion in a technological world, which included three interrelated directions:
- Promoting compassionate care education and practice;
- Fostering new models for delivering compassionate care;
- Facilitating the leadership needed to realize the promise of technology while safeguarding humanistic care in fast-evolving sectors.
This roadmap considers some of the key questions that will shape AMS’s role as a catalyst for innovation. It provides an overview of some of the most transformative technologies on the horizon and briefly explores the potential impacts and issues ahead. It lays out AMS’s 2019 plans for maximizing its influence on healthcare’s transformation.
