- Artificial intelligence
James’s project involved bringing a responsible-innovation approach to healthcare’s growing interest in artificial intelligence (AI). Innovators who use responsible innovation engage diverse stakeholders to consider the implications of their innovation, including its potential unintended consequences. The objective is to innovate in ways that are socially responsible and that create a desired future for all stakeholders instead of for a fortunate few.
James completed a literature review that documented ethical issues related to using AI in healthcare. He conducted qualitative interviews with a range of stakeholders to discuss the ways that AI might impact healthcare. His project culminated in a white paper and a larger grant application that gathered a community of individuals with interest in this topic.
