Developing strategies to make virtual emergency care more accessible for people from under-served communities

Despite its many advantages, not all groups of individuals have reaped the benefits of virtually delivered healthcare programs. Sander’s team will interview people from under-served communities (e.g., people with disabilities, persons of color, new immigrants, people from the LGBTQ2S+ community, etc.) receiving urgent care at Sunnybrook’s virtual emergency department to develop strategies for implementing culturally sensitive and compassionate virtual care. These strategies will be based on the care needs and preferences of these under-served communities, reducing the risk of creating greater disparities in access to virtual care by under-served patient groups.
