Ethics Quality of Care Rounds have been implemented during regular surgical rounds monthly at the University Health Network over two years. Residents select a case with an ethical dilemma and, along with the lead staff, determine key points and moderate an open-ended and confidential discussion with multiple levels of learners and faculty. The fellowship involves:
- Expansion of the ethics education initiative to multiple sites in the Department of Surgery,
- Development and implementation of a research study to explore the results of the initiative, and
- Evaluation of the ethics education initiative and plan for sustainability.
The project is focused on enabling and sustaining compassionate care through the development of health professionals’ self identity, the development of educational activities and curriculum materials, and the creation of healthy work environments.
